A key to winning in any sport is having a great coach, so when I saw this title written by three-time Super Bowl coach and NASCAR championship owner Joe Gibbs, I had to have it. In Game Plane for Life, Joe Gibbs builds a foundation for living a successful life in areas like spirituality, finances, relationships, and career.

Each chapter begins with Joe Gibb's life lessons in that area, and then finished by a specialist he trusts to teach the nuts and bolts of the topic. At first I was a little turned off by it, like having a friend over for dinner only to find out he invited another guest, but in the end the guest writers are brilliant. As with any team, the way to get the most out of your players is to have coaches that focus on one position (quarterback coach, running back coach, linebacker coach, etc.), and so it is in Game Plan for Life.

I'm in my mid-thirties, married with kids, and I wish I had a book like this years ago. It is very insightful and I will have my boys read it when they are of age.

Do you know any man who would like tips for success in life? Would it be even nicer if it was written from a Christian perspective?

In Game Plan for Life by Joe Gibbs, he has written a book for men outlining the guiding principles he has used thoughout his life. With a team of experts, he has uncovered the 11 most important issues facing men today and addresses them in this book including "Who is God?," "Finances," "Relationships and Sex," "Overcoming Sin and Addiction," and more.

As he introduces each topic, Joe shares stories of his life and athletes he has mentored. Many of these are situations that we all can relate to. Then, as an added bonus, he introduces his team of "knowledgable experts" on the topics addressed in the book. Josh McDowell discusses "The Bible:Can I beilieve it?" Ron Blue sheds light on our finances and how best to use them for God's kingdom and our daily lives. Other men who share insights are Randy Alcorn, Ravi Zacharias, and Dr. Walt Larimore.

With the sports' theme running through the book, many men will share memories and experiences with the author. As some of the parts are drier than other, the overall information is well delivered and easy to incorporate into everyday life.

I was fortunate enough to receive a complimentary copy of Joe Gibbs' book "Game Plan for Life" from Tyndale House for review purposes. Joe Gibbs is a successful Nascar Racing team owner as well, and perhaps more notably, the Superbowl winning coach of the Washington Redskins.

His book is called and set up as a game plan for life. He is a self proclaimed "average joe" who doesn't apologize for his competitive spirit or his love for God. Early in the book he explains, "all my experience in leading men--as a coach and team builder--has convinced me that to win the game, you need a game plan." No game plan, no victory.

An expert in team building and leading men, Coach Gibbs assembled 11 other leading men from different fields to draw up a winning plan for the game of life. Their first move was to hire a survey company from Washington D.C. to ask 700 random men a series of 79 questions about what was important to them in life. In turn, each chapter deals with a specific topic that came from that survey. Coach Gibbs begins by sharing some of his story and then introduces each topics author and at the end of the chapter he hits you with the high points with what he calls a "two minute drill".

I found the book to be helpful and a good resource. Some of the chapters were basic fundamental truths about God, the Scripture, creation and heaven. These were nice and easy entries for those who may be unfamiliar with religious topics. I think the meat of the book lies in the chapters 6 and 7 by Ravi Zacharias and Charles Colson, who deal with the topic of sin and salvation. These chapters deal with our standing with God, seeing ourselves for who we really are, and Gods redemptive plan. There are also chapters on health, relationships and how to manage your finances.

The most enjoyable part of this book were the glimpses into Joe Gibbs life and his transparency in sharing mistakes that led to formulating his own game plan for life. So often I find myself making decisions not based on a plan, or set of specific core values, but on ease and what comes naturally. One of the things I still struggle with is budgeting finances. It is the simple and novel reminders to live within your income and that God owns it all that will begin to free people from the unhealthy yoke of debt.

Game Plan for Life is a book that I would recommend. Men young and old, sports fans looking for a way or set of biblical values to put them in a postion of succeeding Gods way will learn and enjoy from this book.

Game Plan for Life is a great read. it's a wonderful book for Christians of all ages and an excellent book to give a sports fan friend who may or may not be on a spiritual journey. along with the Bible, this book could be used as a great introduction to the Christian faith
